Chasetown v Shelfield United FC - 16th September 2018
Today our U8s sponsored by Empire Heating Services kicked off their season with an impressive win.
They started brightly and two early goals from Fin saw us take control of the game. The Shelfield Neymar bagged a brace before an own goal made it 5-0.
Chasetown introduced two extra players but some tireless work throughout from Jack and Sean in midfield kept us well on top. Ollie grabbed his first goal of the season and Parents MOTM Fin scored 3 more goals in 5 minutes to take him to 5 for the match and Shelfield to 9.
The Shelfield Neymar put the icing on the cake with his 3rd and his first hat trick for the club to make it 10-0.
We were amazing going forward today but what pleased me as much were the 3 lads at the back, Jacob is settling into the team really well and showed great awareness, Chops didn’t have much to do but was solid when called upon but my MOTM Alex showed just why he is our rock at the back, nothing got past him and he was so cool on the ball.
Well done lads, perfect start to the season!!!
Shelfield United FC v Red Star- 23rd September 2018
Today our U8s sponsored by Empire Heating Services were looking to build upon last weeks impressive win.
The game began evenly with Jack and Ollie having chances while Alex and Jacob were clearing everything at the other end. We were unfortunate to go 1 down when a half shot/clearance skidded off Chops srms into the net.
We were struggling to cope with the size of the opposition and just after half time we conceded a 2nd, albeit a great run and finish from their player.
The game continued to go end to end and with 5 minutes to go, Harry smashed home from a great through ball by Fin to make it 2-1. The last few minutes we piled on the pressure, our best chance to equalise fell to Fin after a great run and cross by the Shelfield Neymar but his effort went just wide of the post with the last kick of the game.
Parents MOTM was Jacob, a brilliant display and growing in confidence every game.
Managers MOTM was today's Captain, Ollie. Two great training sessions this week earnt him the armband and he continued his excellent recent form and attitude into today's game.
It was a tough game against a big physical team today, fair play to them they played the right way and overall deserved their victory.
Hendesford v Shelfield United FC - 30th September 2018
Earlier today, our U8s sponsored by Empire Heating Services were looking to bounce back after last weeks narrow defeat.
The game started well with both teams working hard in midfield. It looked as though we would be going in at 0-0 but two quick wonder goals put us 2-0 up. Jack got the first with a great first time strike from the edge of the box that flew into the far corner. The second was a marvellous solo effort, Ollie picked the ball up outside the box with his back to goal, he beat two defenders with a neat turnand then evaded three challenges before unleashing a thunderbolt up over the keeper that gave him no chance!!
Hednesford made it 2-1 with a close range finish and they nearly equalised when a super shot was tipped round the post by Chops. The boys settled and Sean came close to increasing our lead with two efforts that both just went wide. Amar made it 3-1 with a strong run down the right wing, he cut in and finished emphatically into the top corner. Then todays captain Harry made it 4-1with a typical strikers goal from inside the box.
Hednesford introduced a sixth player and this initially restricted us to fewer chances, at the other end we still looked solid at the back with Jacob producing another impressive display.
We made it 5-1 when Finn finished smartly and then he took our tally to 6 with a long range effort that blasted into the net, taking the keeper with it!!!
Hednesford now had 7 players on the pitch but this made our lads more determined. We swapped the team about for the last 10 minutes with Sean playing in goal, Chops moving to midfield and Mozza making a rare appearance up top.
Just after the restart we made it 7-1 with a goal we’ve been waiting two years for....... Mozza picked the ball up on the edge of the box, beat two defenders and slotted home for his first goal for the club!! Chops made it 8-1 with a nice turn and finish from close range.
Mozza was then brought down on the right corner of the box, he got up and curled the resultant free kick into the near corner to make it 9-1. Two years waiting for a goal and he gets two in five minutes!!! Brilliant!!!
Harry then made it 10-1 with a pacy run and cool finish. The lads were rampant and Chops made it 11-1 when he showed some nice footwork to create some space before drilling the ball into the net. Hednesford created a couple of opportunities but never really tested Sean in goal.
Parents Motm was Amar, The Shelfield Neymar gave everything and had an outstanding game.
Managers Motm was Chops, today he showed what he is capable of in goal and outfield when he controls his emotions.
All the boys were awesome today, very proud of them, as always.
Thanks to players families today for your great support as normal.
Red Star v Shelfield United FC - 7th October 2018
Today our U8s sponsored by Empire Heating Services made the short trip to Aldridge to play Red Star. The lads were looking for revenge after a narrow 2-1 defeat at home two weeks ago.
From the kick off, it was clear to see that the boys would struggle to play their normal free flowing football on a small, bumpy pitch.
When we had the ball we were quickly hustled and out muscled by a bigger Red Star team. Red Star came close to opening the scoring when a low drive from outside the box was superbly tipped around the post by Chops. Fin and Ollie began to run the midfield and we took the lead with a great goal. Fin was brought down just inside Red Stars half, he got up and smashed the free kick top bins, their keeper got a hand to it but not enough to stop it nestling into the net! Shortly after, we made it 2-0 when quick thinking by Chops set Jack free and he finished brilliantly with a first time strike in off the far post giving their keeper no chance! Red Star had no reply as any attempts at getting forward were denied by another impressive display by Jacob at the back.
Although no goals were scored this quarter, we came closest when Sean produced some magical footwork to create space but his shot just went wide of the post. Harrys pace was causing them problems and he also came close to scoring. At the other end, Mozza was as reliable as ever, mopping everything up in defence.
Red Star got themselves right back into the game, albeit with a big slice of luck. A shot from outside the box took a massive deflection off one of their players leaving Chops wrong footed and rolled into the net. Moments later we conceded an equaliser when we were caught on the counter, their player picking the ball up and making a great run into the box before lobbing Chops.
We were denied a blatant penalty when Ollie dribbled into the box, just as he was about to pull the trigger he got smashed with a tackle from behind! Even their manager was shocked that no penalty was given!
With Sean replacing Chops in goal and Chops playing midfield, we created numerous chances to regain the lead. Fin blasted another free kick against the bar, Chops had a free kick cleared off the line, Harry prodded just wide from close range, Amar sent a diving volley just over the bar and Chops put another effort along the goal line from a tight angle. At the other end, Sean kept us in the game with two terrific saves!!
Parents Motm - Chops
Some brilliant goalkeeping but also showing what a decent outfield player he is becoming.
Managers Motm - Jack
Really pleased with the change in Jacks attitude recently and his all round game has improved dramatically.
The boys will know they’ve been in a game today, never had a game where we’ve had so many free kicks. They’ve showed that if they need too, they will roll their sleeves up and battle for each other and overall deserved more from the game.
Chasetown 4 v Shelfield United FC 2 - 14th October 2018
Today our U8s sponsored by Empire Heating Services knew they would be in for a good battle after two tight games against the Colts last season. The rain was relentless but the pitch was in a decent condition before kick off.
Colts were very good today, they were well organised and disciplined. We had our chances to take something from the game but at times luck wasn’t on our side and overall, Colts deserved their win.
JACK - cool finish from the spot after he was brought down.
OLLIBOB - great goal from the left angle of the box.
PARENTS MOTM: CHOPPER
Excellent display, kept us in the game and prevented a cricket score.
MANAGERS MOTM: HARRY
Never gave up, unlucky not to score in a confident performance.
The result didn’t go for us today but I’d rather have the lads involved in these tough games where they will learn and improve as opposed to playing weaker teams and strolling to victory.
As always, Thanks to family & friends for your support today!
Shelfield United FC v Burntwood Dragons - 21st October 2018
Today our under 8’s sponsored by Empire Heating took on Burntwood Dragons at home. (Finally :-))
Excellent start to the game when the Shelfield Neymar picked up the ball on the half way line, showed pace and strength up the wing and cut inside for a tidy finish.
Once again Amar was on the run down the wing hoping for the same result but this time ended up in a scramble in there box which was eventually put away with authority by Harry.
Ollie did well with some weaving runs and battling in midfield trying to release Harry at every opportunity.
Mozza was a rock at the back with a good combination of tackles and interceptions. As the game went on Burntwood got themselves back into the game but Chops was equal to them on many occasions. Eventually, Burntwood pulled one back with a tidy finish leaving Chops no chance. This gave them confidence but Shelfield were holding their own. At the back Jacob was tackling and clearing the ball to safety whenever he could with Fin playing box to box trying to create opportunities for Jack. Jack battled well and got a few shots away to try and catch their keeper off guard. However, as we attacked more we got caught on the break and an unfortunate bobble on the pitch caught Chops out and their player tucked it away. The last quarter saw Chops out and Jack in goal. Yes you read that right JACK went in goal ! As a result he made some great saves and was communicating well with the lads at the back. The defence were unlucky when a corner Jack tipped onto the bar which then came back out. Jacob and Chops blocked the attackers the best they could but they scrambled it in for 2-3 but the lads heads didn’t drop. After a battle in the midfield Fin got free and raced towards the goal. Just as he was about to pull the trigger he was tackled and then Chops effort was blocked. Shaun who worked tirelessly all game came to the rescue and tucked it calmly away into the net for the equaliser and the game finished 3-3.
Overall, it was a great game lads and it was clear the spectators enjoyed themselves too!
Parents MOTM - Amar
A great energetic display capped off with a very good goal.
Managers MOTM - Jack
Great attitude today and put his teammates before himself by offering to play in goal for the last 10.
Lichfield City Falcons v Shelfield United FC - 18th November 2018
Today Shelfield under 8’s sponsored by Empire Heating Services took on Lichfield city falcons away.
First quarter the boys got off to a slow start and couldn’t seem to get a foothold in the game against a very attacking side. We quickly found ourselves 1 down from some good work that our defence could do nothing about. We were battling hard for the ball but conceded another soon after, 2-0.
Second quarter was much of the same fin and ollie trying to break through midfield only to have there efforts blocked by a strong defence.
Mozza was moping up at the back while Jack in goal had to make some smart stops.
We conceded a 3rd midway through which meant for the first time this season we got to bring on a extra player, enter the Shelfield Neymar , fin played a short corner to Amar who beat 2 players and rocketed a drive into the back of the net. Unfortunately we conceded another just before the break to make it 4-1
Third quarter saw Ollie swap for Jack in goal, we had the extra player and started to get more possession but were still getting caught out with some swift counter attacks, we conceded another goal then Amar got the ball on the halfway line and drove through the defence and calmly slotted home his second. Ollie making some great saves in goal kept the scoreline down and fin filling in at the back, Harry chasing everything and was unlucky not to get on the score sheet, Sean was winning the ball and had a couple of opportunities but we’re blocked.
Final quarter went the same way as the rest of the game we conceded another but the boys kept going and battling for everything, we were piling on the pressure and could of had a couple but for some more good defending.
After some pressure and a couple of corners Amar whipped in a cross which found it’s way into the back of the net giving him his hat trick.
Final score 6-3 but despite the loss was a spirited performance, we created a fair few chances, bit more luck and scoreline would have been a lot closer, boys were great in trying new positions today
Parents MOTM - The Shelfield Neymar, once he moved back into his preferred midfield role there was no stopping him.
Managers MOTM - Harry again chasing everything with a smile on his face and gave everything, unlucky not to score.
Shelfield United FC v Chasetown Scholars - 25th November 2018
Today our U8s sponsored by Empire Heating Services, impressed with a fantastic all round performance to win 4-1.
In an end to end 1st quarter, both teams had chances, we took the lead when Finn smashed home from the edge of the box.
The 2nd quarter was much more of the same, both teams enjoying a fair share of possession with some good battling in midfield and plenty of chances but neither team could add to the scoreline.
In the 3rd quarter, we played some brilliant football, Ollie made it 2-0 with a smart finish under pressure and a few minutes later, Finn got his 2nd, our 3rd, with another rocket!! Chasetown introduced a 6th player and this immediately made a difference as they got on the scoresheet with a great header that gave Chops no chance.
Final quarter and back to 5 v 5, the lads again played some wonderful stuff with todays MOTM Harry being right at the heart of it. We made it 4-1 with a lovely team goal finished by Harry!
Massive performance from the lads today against a very good team, at times we were unplayable and they should all be very proud of themselves...
Chops - Reliable as ever, no chance with their goal.
Alex - Class display from the skipper.
Finn - Bossed the midfield, 2 quality goals.
Jacob - Solid at the back, fearless,
Harry - Complete player today... end of!!!
Ollie - Great work on the wing, nice goal.
Amar - Powerful display, created lots.
Jack - All round game was superb.
Sean - Led the line well, unlucky not to score.
Thanks to everyone for your continued support!
Hednesford Whites v Shelfield United - 2nd December 2018
Today our U8s sponsored by Empire Heating Services hosted Hednesford Whites.
A fast start from the visitors but we held our ground in a very end to end game.
Both teams having plenty of chances but the keepers were stopping everything.
The game still end to end we were very unlucky not to find ourselves ahead but for the opposition keeper. We got caught on the break and conceded a very unlucky goal with the muddy ball squirming under chops after a great Initial save.
More end to end football and both teams should have got a few goals but again the defences and keepers were getting to everything.
A very exciting game both teams on the attack but again the keepers and defences stayed strong.
Passing and movement was paying off and finally got our equaliser which was deserved with some great build up play a blocked shot that dropped to fin who curled into the far corner. More great team play and we could of got in the lead only for the final ball to be slightly over hit.
The boys were full of confidence and really pushing for the winner, unfortunately we got caught on the break and conceded. The boys battled to get back in the game but it was not to be.
Final score 1-2
A great game of football with a brilliant team performance . All played really well and were unlucky not to come away with anything.
Parent MOTM - Mozza another solid performance
Managers MOTM - Ollie improving every week and always creating
Thanks to players families for your great support.
